Wintry precipitation will move in closer to midnight as rain envelops central Ohio with a wintry mix changing to snow closer to the state line. A brief period of icing is possible before temperatures drop below freezing, causing a transition to all snow. An ALERT DAY is in effect Sunday as steady snow coats roadways and impacts travel. Church services may be cancelled due to snow accumulations. Travel will take considerably longer than usual as snow continues falling through late morning. Heavy accumulations of 2-4” with isolated 5-6” amounts northwest of Toledo are expected. Even though snow showers will lighten up in the afternoon, travel conditions will remain hazardous as a gusty northwest wind causes some blowing and drifting. Sustained winds of 15-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph will make shoveling feel frigid, so bundle up and take frequent breaks inside. Minor additional accumulations are possible Sunday evening as snow showers taper off. Slick spots may linger into Monday morning with temperatures dropping to the mid-teens.
