Spring is just around the corner, and this week has been full of small steps to get ready for it. We wove hazel cloches to support plants in the garden, planted strawberries and kumquat trees, began setting up two oak rain barrels, and sowed the first seeds of the season. In between, we continued work on the dry-stone retaining wall and made a start on building a table for the table saw. A week of fresh projects, shifting seasons, and things slowly coming to life—set against typical fickle spring weather: sun, rain, fog, all of it.
We're Isis & Bertus, a Belgian-Dutch couple. In the summer of 2023 we moved into a neglected farmhouse in a tiny village in the northwest of Italy. The last inhabitants left some 15 years before, but large parts of the property have been empty for well over 20 years.
