What Are DLC Lifters and Why Am I Using Them? Are they a budget friendly option to safely run a flat tappet camshaft? Let's find out! First off, we have all seen and heard the horror stories of wiped-out cams due to lifter failure. Most of the time, this is due to improper break-in or getting "junk" in the oil. Speaking of oil, not using the proper oil or additives can also lead to premature failures. In addition to those two things, one huge reason failure is the material in which lifters are made of. Traditionally, lifters have been made of cast iron and that technology worked flawlessly for years. However, due to the availability of cast iron, foundries have had to adjust the "recipe" in order to keep with demand. While doing so, an increase in failures has arisen. In recent history, due to this along with changes in oil, many people have switched to roller camshafts. Now, that switch however does come with a higher cost of the cam and lifters. So, if you are like me, and want to still run flat tappet cams due to budget, what are your options? I guess you could just wing it and hope for the best, but that is most likely not going to work out in your favor. If you are like me, you work hard for your money and want your engine to last. After doing an extensive amount of research, I came across a budget friendly solution to match a pair of Isky cams that are going in two small block Chevy engine builds I currently have going on. You might be wondering what that solution is by now, the answer to that is Comp DLC lifters. In this video, I explain what the diamond like carbon coating is and why I decided to use them. Is this video a product review, kind of. I still need to install them and see how well they work. I can't wait for that! Enjoy!
