Peter Jenkins and Tamara Sears delve further into how Queer Theory underpins the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and why this is problematic for the therapy profession. Queer Theory makes assumptions about reality, which are reflected in the MoU. The omission of children in the MoU contradicts established case law developed over centuries, where the right of the child to be protected is enshrined in law. The MoU reverses the burden of proof for therapists, creating a chilling effect concerning conversion therapy, an issue that no registering body has addressed until the UKCP recently withdrew from the MoU.
