Welcome back my fellow cosmic hobbyists! The last we saw of our intrepid crew of the Pathfinder, they were on their way to one of the planets identified as possibly harboring life. By utilizing the space warping drive system aboard the Pathfinder, the crew was able to arrive to the planet orbiting Proxima Centauri about 2 weeks after leaving earth. When they arrived, they found many good spots to send science probes down to the surface. One of them showed some unique electromagnetic signatures so it was decided this would be the spot the crew would land in a shuttle to explore the planet’s surface. There were four crew members that flew down in a shuttle, named the Roxy Bella. The crew found a unique mineral that when brought back to the pathfinder, was found to create a metal that was many times stronger than tungsten but just as light, and equally as brittle as titanium. The crew is calling this metal “unobtanium”. It is figured this metal will have many, many uses in the future.
Now that you know the story of the crew being on the planet’s surface, let me tell you about the construction of this diorama. I used materials in the construction like a wooden art board from Hobby Lobby, Pink XPS foam for the mountain base, Sculpt-a-mold, plaster rocks that were cast in Woodland Scenics molds, Vallejo paints for the base color and washes, 3d printed shuttle craft, astronauts, and space probe on my Anycubic photon printer, really small lava rocks and lots of imagination!
When this diorama was complete, you could almost imagine how desolate the planet is. There was once water on here but it dried up many hundreds of thousands of years ago. This gives lots of opportunity to explore the dried up surface!
Come along as I build this planet’s surface and imagine how excited these astronauts, and the crew of the pathfinder must be with finding this new mineral, and any new surprises that come along the way!
