The Astrodome was built in 1965 and was a stadium like none had ever seen. The first indoor air-conditioned stadium, the luxurious features were ahead of it's time and ushered a new era of consumerism for sports. The Astros, Oilers, and Houston Cougars played their home games at the stadium along with the numerous events such as the battle of the sexes, final fours, and national championships. It was also an entertainment hub featuring concerts from Elvis, the Jacksons, Selena, and many more. But as the Oilers left in the mid-90s along with the Astros a few yeas later, the Astrodome became expendable. An abandoned stadium that still stands because of it's history.
