Ever wonder what happened to the old, hallowed ground of Yankee Stadium?
Yeah. Me too.
I decided to pay a visit to the landmark real estate in the South Bronx, to see what has become of it after almost 15 years since the new building opened across the street in 2009.
Needless to say, I was pretty surprised.
This vlog is not just for the baseball fan, but for the sports fan as well. I’ll review some of the memorable and historic moments, iconic and immortal players, classic games and unforgettable achievements that took place in what was called “The Cathedral of Baseball”. Let’s not forget, that the “Greatest Game Ever Played” on these grounds was actually a football game. That’s right! The 1958 NFL Championship between the Baltimore Colts & New York Giants, in which the Colts won in overtime, 23-17.
There were also heavyweight championship fights that included Joe Louis, Max Schmeling, Rocky Marciano, Sugar Ray Robinson and the incomparable Muhammed Ali.
As the original playing field is still in tact, (barely, I might add) after all of these years, I question on why hasn’t this space been preserved? I do a deep dive as the avid sports lover that I am, to pay this land the utmost respect, honor and cherish for all that it’s given to sports fans for generations. I even share a memory as a diehard Mets fan of being in the Stadium many years ago and how I’ve come to grips to going back to a place that’s haunted me for many years.
