This is part two of the topic: “Should I do extra qualifications during my degree?”
Use the 80/20 rule (Pareto principle)
“for many outcomes, roughly 80% of consequences come from 20% of causes”
Say to you want to be an intellect. The 20% thing you can do is read a book. Not doing a Science or Engineering degree or going to a good school.
When you focus on this habits over a long time, the result compounds.

Recap from previous video
Remember the resources I mentioned from the previous video:
• Money
• Time
• Effort
Investing these resources you want to gain the following:
• Knowledge
• Experience
• Connections – people who can mentor you, advice you, introduce you, recommend you
The goal is to invest in the bottom two more.
Join a club or society
Join a Toastmasters club or Gavel club. You will gain amazing communication skills and meet a lot of interesting people. Take part in conducting workshops.
Join a professional club or society: IEEE, Science Society etc. Take part in their events, organize projects, invite people. You will learn how to manage things, and work with people. These clubs also have strong networks with past graduates who might be able to help you in your job search.
If you want to learn something
use the internet. There are so many resources. Saves money and time.
Invest your time in a writing course – because your email writing is horrible. How to write emails, present your work clearly. Learn to have conversations with people outside of your bubble.
Work while doing your degree or after school
It can be unrelated to your work. You learn valuable skills. I worked in an office as a clerk /secretary. I learned how to write letters and emails there. Work in a restaurant, school, shop – learn how to handle people. When customer complaint – learn how to handle those situations. Most undergraduates don’t have these interpersonal skills. Despite being unrelated to your field – you become more mature than your colleagues. People who are hiring – will recognize this. You might meet someone who will help you in your next step. That could be a valuable connection in the future.
Pro Tip – Focus on creating value
My advice is, don’t make getting a job and making money the sole purpose for all your decisions. People will notice that and will not like to be around you. Don’t make connections for this reason. You need to give and take. Help people around you, try to solve their problems and be an example to them. For this you need to have a deeper purpose. Because you are not gaining anything materialistic out of it.
Figuring out your purpose takes time and it’s a learning process. My purpose comes from Islam which involves being of use to society, to my community and build great things to seek the pleasure of Allah. This allows me to commit to things for a long time without expecting any material results. For you it might be different. That is the reason why you come to my channel – you know that I am of value to you. So, you should try to be of value to others.
