All experiential therapies share four core elements that together foster transformational change in therapy. Join us on PATREON: https://patreon.com/toriolds My video courses: https://toriolds.com/ceus-for-therapists/ In this video I explore the experiential therapy movement and the whole new umbrella of therapies it has created, like IFS, AEDP, emotion-focused therapy, ISTDP, coherence therapy, somatic therapies, among others. Because this is a new therapy camp, it is not easy to find information about how it came to be, and what makes experiential therapies unique. So in this video I will outline the four shared components all experiential therapies share, which are: 1) an aim to resolve the issue at its root rather than simply managing its symptoms 2) a use of mindfulness for self exploration (versus simply self-regulation) 3) a sensitivity to safety 4) a use of therapeutic focus, versus simply using the session for storytelling or general support. 00:00 Intro 00:50 What is Experiential Therapy? 03:00 Resolving the Issue at it's Root 9:28 Mindfulness for Self Exploration (versus Self-Regulation) 14:04 Safety in the Work 16:32 Therapeutic Focus 20:24 Join Us on Patreon The information provided by Dr. Tori Olds is solely intended for informational and entertainment purposes and are not a substitute for advice, diagnosis, or treatment regarding medical or mental health conditions.
