*What is Grief? | Exploring Loss in Westernized Cultures with Dr. Dani Baker | Part 1* 🌟 Welcome to another episode of "Tea with the Experts and Dr. Leah Merle"! 🌟 🎙 Episode 21: What is Grief Part 2 📅 Release Date: Jan 1, 2025 👥 Guest: Dr. Dani Baker ____________________________________________ In this illuminating episode of Tea with the Experts, Dr. Leah Merle sits down with Dr. Dani Baker, a renowned grief therapist and educator, to delve into the intricacies of grief and its often-avoided realities in Westernized cultures. Together, they examine societal pressures to “move on” quickly after loss, explore emotional avoidance surrounding grief, and challenge misconceptions about the “stages” of grief. Dr. Baker provides compassionate insights into healthier, trauma-informed approaches to processing loss, inviting listeners to rethink and reshape their relationship with grief. In the second installment of a three-part series on grief, designed to help you better understand one of life’s most profound experiences, Dr. Baker discusses natural grieving styles of a healthy griever, which are experienced along a continuum - at one end is the instrumental griever and the other the intuitive griever - and over time, most grievers find their way closer to the middle as a blended griever. Next Dr. Baker discusses that most many grievers experience a primary loss, as well as secondary and tertiary losses, highlighting the complexities and layers of loss healthy grievers are impacted by during times of overwhelming sorrow. Finally, Dr. Baker shares a broad overview of what healthy grief can look like for many people processing, adapting, and integrating significant loss. To do this, Dr. Baker breaks grief down over an 18-month period, discussing grief via windows of time highlighting typical experiences of grief as well as how to support grief during these fluid experiences of moving in and out of natural grief. Please note: This part of this discussion is not meant to be seen as hard and fast or a structured step by step process, rather Dr. Baker highlights how healthy grieving is fluid, requiring grievers to take steps forward and backward, over a substantial period of time (between 12 to 18 months) to allow for the brain and body to catch up, then begin to adapt to change, and finally integrate significant loss through meaning making and continued bonds. Don’t miss this powerful conversation that seeks to destigmatize grief and foster a deeper sense of connection and healing. *About Dr. Dani Baker:* Every year, countless individuals face the profound challenges of grief after significant loss events.
