In this lesson, you will learn how to write down the equation of a line in slope intercept form. This form, which is written as y=mx+b uses the slope and the y-intercept of the line to write the equation down. In this way, linear equations (lines) can be graphed very rapidly in the xy coordinate plane. The slope is calculated by rise divided by run, which measures how steep the line is. The y-intercept shows where the line intersects the y-axis.
