When you think of a shackle for cranes and rigging, you probably visualize an anchor shackle (aka bow shackle), which is iconic for sure. But for such a simple product — it's just two plain pieces of metal, right? — there are a surprising number of product options. The catch with shackles is that they're used in many different ways that need special features to optimize usefulness. Some only need to pull a few hundred pounds, others are relied upon to lift 100s of tons! Over the years, manufacturers have followed the needs of the lifting industry and created different shackle styles to ensure riggers have the right tool for the job and can work as safely as possible. In this video, we outline some of the most common shackle styles, shackle brands, and how to pick between different types of shackles.
