We stumbled across this store a week before they opened last year! Now we’re back to see what was in all those boxes they were hauling into their new shop, and how Main Street Antiques has added to the antique district of Gape Girardeau, Missouri. It’s exciting! This store is burgeoning, with the dealer spaces all full of valuable vintage and some really nice real antiques. The John Deere pedal tractor and 1920s enameled gas range in the front beckon us to explore, and we’re quickly in a large space where 1930s quilts cover walls, providing colorful backings for collections of Victorian low blue china and 1920s crockery and enamelware. A crazy instrument called a Ukelin tells its story, flanked by 1930s elegant glass, vintage fashion and bright blue 1970s satin Fenton. We score an unusual Dutch art figure from 1930s New York City, ogle a handsome mahogany china cabinet and a still intact 1870s bedroom suite, and enjoy pretty 1910s and 20s women prints in diptychs and over wall mirrors. Vintage 1930s–50s doll toys and trucks, an irresistible case of $10 toothpicks in 1890s patterns, and beautiful glass from deep red Victorian bride’s baskets to Blenko and Pilgrim MCM pieces show a good variety coming into the mall. Upstairs, we find shelves of costume jewelry (a $6 flower pin is ours!), petroliana and signs, a huge shaker collection (we had to buy a few) and a cool wood case letter die box shows how people once monogrammed their hand-made wooden goods. We come back down to the other half of this surprisingly large mall, where a vintage comic book stand with original contents divides the hall into more spaces. 1980s mannequin heads, a cool MCM Asian inlaid antelope chair, 1940s Cordey porcelain busts and handsome Stick and Ball furniture from the Victorian age tempts us, while colorful Italian lamps, Treasure Craft pottery and police and firefighter pedal cars represent the 1960s and 70s to collectors. So much cool stuff, and plenty of deals to take home as well! Main Street Antiques may be Cape Girardeau’s newest antique center, but it’s shaping up to be a must-see stop in the town’s downtown antique corridor. ———————————————————— ☀️ Do you want more info about an item you own?
