Spectral processing for tonal and dynamic balance Automatic parametrization with a single click Tools for creative dynamics shaping Up Your Compression Game - Audio Compression Powered by AI Hey, what’s up producers, Joshua Casper here with Plugin Boutique and today we’re taking a look at what’s new and improved in smart:comp 2 by sonible. Like all of sonible’s smart:plugins, smart:comp 2 uses AI to listen to an incoming audio signal and set the starting points for all of the compressor’s parameters automatically for you! This machine learning algorithm uses up-to 2,000 bands for constant analysis which then applies sonible’s unique spectral compression technology to ensure dynamic balance and non-compromising compression quality at all times! Sounds amazing! Pun intended, so let’s check out some key features of smart:comp 2! The main feature here is the automatic compression parametrization. Essentially, by just clicking one button you are getting a custom compressor preset which changes depending on the sound you feed into the plugin. Now, you can literally just press the button while your audio is playing and you'll get a starting point, but you might get better results if you prime the algorithm by selecting the type of mate-rial, for example a drum bus like I have here. Now, let me draw your attention to the green section at the bottom of the GUI. This is where we can set the spectral processing frequency range and amount, plus adjust the color and style dials to change the character of the compression results – the style is particularly good for shaping transients. Well, what is spectral processing you might ask? Do you remember those 2,000 bands I mentioned earlier, that’s what we are talking about? Essentially, this turns smart:comp 2 into a multi-band compressor on steroids. Smart:comp 2 also features a free-form Transfer Function which users can manipulate to achieve complex compression goals. However, if you don’t know what transfer functions are smart:comp has built-in presets to get you started; like parallel compression, noise gating and more. Though, you have access to these two nodes to tweak to your heart's content. You can also keep your eye on the level mapping which is reflected in a level histogram and the compression grid and, in fact, this is a good opportunity to mention all the interactive real-time visualizations with every parameter change in smart:comp 2. Not only does it look great, but it gives you actionable and informative feedback! Lovely stuff. The last major feature I want to mention is the frequency-dependent ducking which creates space for the sidechain signal. First, make sure you have a sidechain signal coming into the compressor, turn on sidechaining in the compressor, you can filter out any frequencies from the sidechain signal you don’t want to trigger the compressor using this filter here, and then simply hit the learn button! It literally does everything for you. It sets all your parameters for top notch multi-band sidechaining! Of course, remember, this is a starting point. You can always go in and make adjustments, for example, I want my release to be a bit shorter. And that’s not all, some other feature highlights include the interactive real-time visualizations I already mentioned, spectral linking controls, automatic output gain, mid/side processing, input level riding, surround sound support, resizable GUI, and so much more I didn’t get into here. Sonible’s smart:comp 2 is definitely a compressor you want in your production toolbox. It’s available now on Plugin Boutique. You can check it out by clicking the link below. And, as always, I’m Joshua Casper, I hope you learned something, and I’ll see you in the next video. #pluginboutique #sonible #compressor
