London's Docklands Light Railway (or DLR) has grown to become a key part of the city's transport infrastructure. Since it opened in the 1980's the system has seen continued growth in both ridership and the number of routes it offers - in fact, a whole new route is currently under consideration, and that will be the topic of this video!

The route in question is the DLR extenion to Thamesmead - a project that will not only aid the regeneration of Thamesmead, but will also open up Beckton Riverside for development - and could allow for the construction of up to 30,000 new homes and 10,000 new jobs.

Thamesmead, in particular, has long been promised a rail link (see Jago Hazzard's video on the topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7MaPOgjDlk) and this project should finally see that become a reality.

However, the plan has not always been for this rail link to be a DLR extenion, so in this video I'll be looking at some of the other options that were considered (including an overground extension from Barking Riverside to Abbey Wood, a Tram line, and other DLR links using the Woolwich Arsenal branch).

I'll also be looking at some options that haven't really been considered (e.g. a ferry / thames clippers service) how the proposed route will work, and what I think it needs to be successful.
