In 1996, it was Mitsubishi that introduced the first mass-produced direct-injection gasoline engines. Japanese direct injection is widely known as GDI. Then VAG presented its FSI.
Japanese direct injection engines did not take root, although they were quite reliable. Especially with 2nd and 3rd generation fuel injection pumps.
We dealt with them using the example of the 1.8 GDI engine (4G93), taken from Mitsubishi Space Star.
