We drill these procedures over and over to the point that they may even come to be taken for granted. In training, when you have an engine failure, it's ALWAYS an "engine failure". The verification of our dead engine always results in a positive diagnosis that yes, in fact, your engine is dead. However, in real life that is not always the case! This situation illustrates how other issues may present as engine failures, and highlights the importance of the verification within the troubleshooting process.
