In September 2024, WHO published its groundbreaking guidance on best practices for clinical trials, establishing a global framework for the design and conduct of all clinical trials, with insights applicable to observational studies.
This session features WHO’s Chief Scientist, Jeremy Farrar, presenting this milestone in clinical research, followed by a detailed overview from WHO's Research for Health Senior Advisor, Vasee Moorthy. Key aspects of the guidance include embedding research within health systems, fostering diverse clinical research networks, and prioritising community engagement throughout the trial lifecycle.
The event also explored how the guidance simplifies clinical trial approval processes and promotes a risk-based, proportionate approach to trial design and data oversight. A Q&A session provided participants with an opportunity to engage with WHO experts.
This event was organised in collaboration with The Global Health Network, a WHO Collaborating Centre for research information sharing and capacity development.
