This video, inspired by a Listening In video on Salvador Dalí, looks at a variety of intellectual figures (Plato, Philodemus, St. Augustine of Hippo, Sextus Empiricus, Immanuel Kant, Salvador Dalí, and Leo Tolstoy) and their arguments 'against' music as an art form, not just specific genres or styles of music. Before starting this project, it seemed almost unfathomable that such figures would position themselves as 'against' music in this way.
