China is in the process of creating possibly the biggest infrastructure project ever attempted. The South to North Water Transfer Project is designed to move water from rivers in the wet south of the country, to dry, densely populated areas in the north. However, the project has widely been criticised, not only for displacing large amount of people, but also for tapping into waterways that service other countries in South-East Asia, and India.
With the 2700 miles of canals and manmade waterways, including mega structures like the 3 Gorges Dam, and the $70bn price tag, many people are wondering if this is a worthwhile venture or one of the biggest missteps in industrial engineering.
