Demet Cabbar has been living in America for 28 years and is currently working on partnerships at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Prior to that, she spent 20 years working at the World Bank. She lives with her husband and 10-year-old son in the Arlington area of Washington, D.C.
Demet Cabbar’s roots trace back to Tekirdağ, Turkey. Her family, some escaping the Balkan Wars and others arriving through population exchanges, settled in Turkey. After a challenging struggle, they started a new life from scratch. This resilient spirit was passed down to Demet as well. Her father wanted her to become a pharmacist, but she decided to follow her own path and got into the Industrial Engineering program at Istanbul Technical University. She went to America for her master's degree and began a new life on this continent.
During her first years in America, which she spent alone, she joined Turkish associations and built a new network. The desire to start a family was always important to her. She lost her first child, a loss that weighed heavily on her. However, now she continues to live a strong life with her husband and son. Deeply devoted to both her family and career, she continues her life in America.
