In this conversation, Dr. Rachel Brown discusses the critical link between diet and mental health, emphasizing the importance of nutritional interventions in psychiatric treatment. She shares her experiences with patients who have seen significant improvements through dietary changes, particularly with ketogenic and carnivore diets. The discussion also covers the challenges of integrating these approaches into mainstream psychiatry, the impact of insulin resistance on mental health, and the need for more research in this area. Dr. Brown advocates for a shift towards functional medicine, focusing on root causes rather than just symptoms.

Dr. Rachel Brown is a consultant psychiatrist specialising in metabolic psychiatry, as well as being a functional medicine practitioner, nutrition network advisor and author.
