As a young family we emigrated to Canada for greater opportunity and quality of life. The reasons we left the U.K. were many, partly to do with economics, the high sales tax and aging infrastructure that wasn't being maintained. The middle class were being put under increasing pressure with high mortgage interest rates of the late eighties and early nineties.
The confrontation of the Thatcher government left a legacy of bitterness. We had always had the desire to work and live abroad, Norm worked for a French company for a while and had numerous business trips to France and was exploring the idea of working in France.
An opportunity arose for us to move to Canada and after we researched it we thought it would be very good for our family, so we sold up in England and moved to Ontario Canada.
