Video Not Working? Fix It Now

Ulrich Beppler calls what is standing in his yard dirty and full of cobwebs a "barn find": a BMW R 75/5, built in 1972, top speed 175 kilometers per hour - theoretically.

For 30 years, the machine stood unused in a shed, and now the motorcycle specialist from Landau in southern Palatinate wants to find out why.

Ulrich Beppler has experience with special jobs; a few years ago he restored Jutta Kleinschmidt's motorcycle, with which she won the Paris Dakar Rally in 1992.
Now he will take the old BMW apart piece by piece.

There are "a lot of individual parts," he laughs, "but with my 30-plus years of experience, I'll get it all back together." What surprises there are in the process, what the master two-wheeler mechanic needs a hot air dryer and a hotplate for - and whether the piece, which was very expensive at the time, will run again in the end: "Craftsmanship" was involved.
