Will reading books help you speak English more fluently?
Recently the great Hadar Shemesh published a video questioning whether READING BOOKS will actually help improve your English FLUENCY. This is a very personal topic to me.
I admire Hadar, but I disagree with a couple of her points about reading.
So...I decided to respond.
Some say that the only way to improve your speaking...is to SPEAK.
So...if you want to speak fluent English, why read books?
You should spend all your time SPEAKING, right?
Actually, all the skills of English support and reinforce each other.
To get fluent, YES, you have to speak.
But reading, writing, and listening ALSO support fluency.
