Friends, cottagecore garden design is near to my heart. I hope you enjoy this tour of my humble, woodland garden that was once an exposed, uninviting backyard in an urban setting. Now, this private courtyard not only supports life but has a life of it's own, inspiring multiple uses and experiences. A walkway travels under a wide garden arbor, covered with vines. The plants and objects have been collected over the years and each has a story to tell, if nothing more than the ability to endure the passage of time. I've packed a lot into this small garden design while trying to keep the area open and approachable--a fine balance. Although I've used classic design principles, I wanted this garden to feel unscripted. Perhaps one day I'll paint the fence so it visually recedes, further blurring the property line, but honestly, I like the aged patina and it likely won't stay upright much longer!
