It’s been a minute since I’ve been at the lathe and I wanted a quick and easy project to get me back in the groove. A nice little black walnut bowl with a bead turned about a third of the way from the top seemed like a great way to get back into face work after doing a bunch of spindle turning for the holidays. I was really happy with the shape and proportion - and then I caught the wing of gouge on the rim while preparing to ease the edge - DOH! Guess I should’ve used a negative rake scraper instead. Fortunately all was not lost and I was able to save the detail, but I sure do like to make more work for myself!
