Watch my "burl-esque" show as I peel away layer by layer to reveal some very impressive wood... Even though there was no burl formed on the outside of this log, inside was a nice surprise - an area with layers of burl-like grain, but without any burl eyes. Some people might call it a layered burl or onionskin burl. From it, I turn a somewhat spherical, round bottom bowl with an open top and natural edge. I hollowed as much as possible with my bowl gouges, then finished off the bottom with scrapers. Because it is so deep and has a natural edge, reaching inside without touching the rim becomes a tricky task at times... sorta like the game Operation, but with more painful consequences.
You will also notice that I'm going back to my non-talking format. People seem to be skipping a lot of the talking, and since that is what adds the most complexity to the video process, I'm hoping that I can get my videos out on a more regular schedule by reducing the talking. I do have some videos planned that will require talking (i.e., Tips & Tricks, etc.), but in general the talking doesn't seem to be adding a whole lot to the final product. For those who do like some talking/instruction, my interactive, live, remote demos are still coming, it's just taking a bit longer to get all the details worked out.
