Casual short one about my experience working in the retail and hospitality industries as an autistic woman. Burnout is a huge problem and so, this Autism Awareness Week, I thought there might be some helpful clues in the one hospo job that I enjoyed. The time I was a barista in New Zealand. What about that role did I find so autism-friendly? What can employers do to make things better for their neurodivergent and otherwise disabled workers?
When disabled people are deemed "fit for work" by apathetic governments, we need to be safe in employment. I talk about some of the barriers and challenges facing us and why we need more worker solidarity from those on the Left.
