The Arc of Attrition is a brutal 100-mile winter ultra-trail race along Cornwall’s rugged southwest coast. Runners battle fierce Atlantic winds, freezing temperatures, and relentless elevation gain as the 100-milers traverse the South West Coast Path from Coverack to Porthtowan.
THANK FULLY, the weather gods were on our side! On the National Trust Cornwall Coast Path, 24th - 26th January 2025 - we had a 30-hour ‘weather window’ rest-bite from the predicted horrendous Storm Eowyn. In fact, we had a beautiful, quite warm, dry sunny day!
That said, the terrain did not change - with steep cliff paths, enormous steps, narrow trails, deep sand (the Dunes of Doom) and generally challenging terrain, the race demands exceptional endurance, some navigation skills, and mental resilience.
Limited daylight towards the end of the day particularly - and many technical descents add to the difficulty. Supported by checkpoints and a dedicated crew; The Arc Angels - only the toughest finish within the 36-hour cutoff. The Arc is not just a race—it’s a true test of grit against the element
