गहन वनों के बीच, जहाँ सूरज की किरणें भी झिलमिलाती हुई उतरती थीं, वहाँ एक रहस्यमयी स्थान था—यक्षलोक। यह स्थान उन यक्षों और यक्षिणियों का निवास था, जिनका अस्तित्व केवल किंवदंतियों में सुना जाता था। इन्हीं जंगलों में बसता था यक्ष अद्वय, जो धन और समृद्धि का रक्षक था, और वहीं रहती थी यक्षिणी वासिनी, जिसकी सुंदरता स्वयं चंद्रमा की शीतलता को मात देती थी।
पहली मुलाकात – जब समय ठहर गया
कहते हैं कि प्रेम न किसी सीमा को मानता है, न किसी लोक को। अद्वय और वासिनी की पहली भेंट एक गहरी गुफा में हुई थी, जहाँ अमर खजाना छुपा था। वासिनी वहाँ अपने सौंदर्य से प्रकृति को मोहित कर रही थी, और अद्वय अपनी रक्षा करने की शपथ निभा रहा था। उनकी दृष्टियाँ मिलीं, और मानो समय वहीँ ठहर गया।
वासिनी की आँखों में एक अनजाना आकर्षण था, और अद्वय के भीतर एक ऐसी शक्ति थी जो किसी को भी वश में कर सकती थी। लेकिन इन दोनों के बीच मोह नहीं था, बल्कि एक अदृश्य बंधन था जो पहले जन्मों से चला आ रहा था।
छल और वचन – प्रेम की परीक्षा
परंतु प्रेम की राहें आसान नहीं होतीं। देवताओं और असुरों को उनका प्रेम स्वीकार नहीं था। यक्षों को केवल अपने कर्तव्य निभाने का आदेश था, और यक्षिणियों को अपनी स्वतंत्रता प्रिय थी। वासिनी को चेतावनी दी गई कि यदि उसने यक्षलोक की मर्यादाएँ तोड़ीं, तो उसे श्राप मिलेगा। लेकिन प्रेम तो सीमाएँ नहीं जानता—वासिनी ने अपने लोक को छोड़कर अद्वय के साथ संसार घूमने की ठानी।
परिणाम यह हुआ कि यक्षलोक के नियम टूट गए, और उन्हें एक-दूसरे से दूर करने का षड्यंत्र रचा गया। वासिनी को अमरत्व का श्राप था—वह कभी मृत्यु को प्राप्त नहीं हो सकती थी। जबकि अद्वय को यह श्राप मिला कि वह एक दिन प्रेम की बलि चढ़ाएगा
प्रेम ने मृत्यु को पराजित कर दिया था। यक्ष अद्वय चला गया, लेकिन यक्षिणी वासिनी आज भी अपने अमर प्रेम की प्रतीक्षा में खड़ी है—एक अनंत युगों तक।
