Beginning with the founding of the Chair of Ecclesiastical History at Yale University Divinity School in the 1870s, its holders, including Williston Walker, Roland Bainton, and Jaroslav Pelikan, were deeply engaged with the Reformation. For 2017, we shall consider their visions of the past and look to new ways of understanding an event that formed the modern world.
Presenter: Bruce Gordon is the Titus Street Professor of Ecclesiastical History; his research and teaching focus on European religious cultures of the late-medieval and early modern periods, with a particular interest in the Reformation and its reception.
