In 2017, Young officially joined JVR. After receiving positive reviews for his original composition and performance of “That Store,” the opening theme for the television drama “Yong-Jiu Grocery Store,” he finally greets us with his own music. Young’s official debut single “Glimmer” contains intriguing lyrics that flawlessly complement the melody he composed, resulting in an allure that’s gentle, yet tough.

When Young first saw the lyrics to “Glimmer,” he was immediately reminded of when he first joined the theatre troupe. He often played an extra, sometimes without any lines, who was only on stage once during the whole duration of a two-hour performance. However, once Young sets foot on stage, he tries his absolute best to complete the performance. Only when every actor strives to give 100% on stage, the production stands a chance of becoming perfect. So even when he’s playing an “extra” that may be considered unremarkable by others, he sees the experience as an irreplaceable “glimmer.”
These first-hand experiences from Young’s time on stage inspired Xiao Yi’s lyrics, which resonates seamlessly with the music, from the rhyme to the fluctuations in the melody. This song not only constructs a bridge that spans between Young, music, performance and the public. As you follow the “Glimmer,” a rhythmic, internal monologue of Young’s journey to this point can also be heard - In their own careers, each person is all but a faint glimmer, especially when they are starting off, they only make up 1% of the whole picture. As every “1%” counts toward the final 100%, you should not be pessimistic, or even hopeless because you perceive yourself as insignificant. All the routine, repetitive motions in daily life that are seemingly meaningless actually hold great significance and power, because the convergence of tens of thousands of “Glimmers” result in a radiant beam of light. Through hard work, an opportunity will ultimately arise for you to shine.
The song “Glimmer” holds tremendous significance for Young.
