Zabbix Proxy is much more than just a tool for distributed monitoring and savior in case of network issues. It is hard to pretend a huge Zabbix installation without proxies to offload the server. Have long-running custom checks such as User Parameters or External scripts? Don't put those on the Server. Let the proxy do the dirty job.
