Host of Cultural Manifesto Kyle Long speaks with Five-time Grammy-winning tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain who is returning to the Palladium in a duo with Rahul Sharma, master of the santoor, a 100-stringed hammered dulcimer common to India’s Jammu and Kashmir region. Their tour pays tribute to Sharma’s father, the late Shivkumar Sharma, a longtime Hussain collaborator credited with introducing the traditional folk instrument to Indian classical music. Hussain, considered one of the greatest tabla players of all time, is well-known in the West for his collaborations with rock, jazz and classical musicians. He is the founder and president of Moment Records, an independent label presenting rare live concert recordings of Indian and world music.
