This is a re-upload of my previous Zhu Bajie video I put out just a few days ago. I received a copyright claim on that video due to one of the background music songs. I was not able to clear the claim, so I went back and edited out the song. I included a quick explanation going over this at the start of the video. The main content of this video is mainly the same, with the exception of what I needed to change in order to take out the background music and still make the video work. What follows is the same video on Zhu Bajie I release a few days ago. Thank you for your patience, and I'll be back with new content very soon.
When it comes to Chinese Mythology, and perhaps mythology of all cultures, there is no other character more renowned for their brotherhood than Zhu Bajie. The loyalty he gives to Sun Wukong, his older brother, is truly unique. Throughout Black Myth Wukong, we see Bajie tasked with the mission of helping the Destined One collect the relics of Wukong in hopes they will provide a way to see his brother reborn. Unfortunately, Bajie doesn't understand the nature of his older brother's death and believes, through the relics, he can be reborn as he once was - as the original Sun Wukong. Therefore, this blind loyalty to Wukong sees Bajie steamroll through chapters 3-6 in an effort to regain the relics and see his dead brother once again.
Along Bajie's journey, we see this loyalty to Wukong play out in chapters 3-5 and most of chapter 6. It is in these chapters that Bajie still believes he will be able to revive Wukong as he once was and we see his blind devotion to the Great Sage Equalling Heaven. Because Wukong's relics are intertwined with the events of Journey to the West, Wukong must also confront his past, specifically the Violet Spider and their spider children. During Bajie's time with the Destined One, they bond slightly, but he views the Destined One as just a tool to help him obtain Wukong's Relics. Finally, in the last part of chapter 6, once Bajie and the Destined One make it inside Wukong's Stone, they are confronted by Bodhisattva Guanyin disguised as the Old Monkey. It is at this moment that Bajie comes to fully understand the mechanics of Wukong's revival and the true purpose of the Destined One. When this realization occurs, we see Bajie's character fully develop and he learns to shift the love he feels towards Wukong to the Destined One. Bajie comes to see the Destined One as his new, little brother. And before the Destined One embarks upon his last battle with the Shell of the Great Sage, Zhu Baije shouts a proclamation of brotherhood and care for the one he once called just another Mute Monkey.
