We wanted to cover all the central Christmas markets so that you could easily navigate when walking around the city center.
01:20 Zürich Weihnachtsdorf
Christmas market is the “Weihnachtsdorf” at Sechseläutenplatz near the Operahaus, which has the nicest vibe and best food.
They have lots of market stands selling interesting gifts, which tend to be a little higher end than the other markets. The vendors change weekly, so there’s a reason to visit frequently to see what’s changed.
It’s particularly atmospheric in the evenings, the most beautiful market in Zurich. You can get lovely overview pictures from the fondue chalet balcony.
But the real reason to come here is the food! So many delicious things to eat this market, from traditional Swiss to a variety of international flavors: Mexican, Peruvian, Japanese, etc. They also have a fondue chalet and fondue gondolas, best to make a reservation. It feels like a food festival, with lots of cozy corners to sit or stand while you eat and chat with friends.

20:10 Münsterhof
This is little market, in the plaza right in front of the Fraumünster cathedral. With the motto “from Zürich for Zürich,” the vendors here are mostly small local businesses, meaning you might find more unique gifts at this market.
Website: www.zuerich-weihnachtsmarkt.ch
Location: Münsterhof / Tram stop: Paradeplatz or Helmhaus
Dates: 21 Nov to 24 Dec 2024
Opening times: Mon-Sat 11:00 – 21:30 / Sun 11:00 – 19:30 / 23 Dec 11:00 – 21:30
They have a sleigh with the Böögg, which is a popular photo opp.
The mülled wine here is from Zweifel (a local wine producer), made a little less sweet so it tastes more like wine.
This market also offers a few workshops (origami and soap making) and musical concerts almost every evening, usually at 18:00 or 19:00. See the program on their website. Although all the markets get crowded, this one is usually a little quieter than the big ones at Sechseläutenplatz and the main train station.
40:00 Singing Christmas Tree & Werdmühleplatz Market
Near the main Bahnhofstrasse shopping street, you’ll find the Singing Christmas Tree at Werdmühleplatz. Every night, there are musical concerts with the performers standing in the tree.
Location: Werdmühleplatz / Transit stop: Bahnhofstrasse/HB
Dates: 21 Nov to 23 Dec 2024
Times: Market open Mon – Thu 16:00 – 21:00 / Fri 16:00 – 22:00 / Sat 13:00 – 22:00 / Sun 13:00 – 21:00
Website: www.singingchristmastree.ch
Next to the concert, there is a small Christmas market with food including a fondue chalet.
46:15 Christkindlimarkt
The large market at the Zürich HB has dozens of stands selling all the typical stuff like scarves, candles, nativity scenes, ornaments and other holiday inspired gifts.
Website: christkindlimarkt.ch
Location: Zürich HB main train station (see on map)
Dates: 21 Nov to 24 Dec 2024
Opening times: daily from 11:00
The food here has traditional Swiss options, like bratwurst, rösti, and raclette, but more international flair as years go by. They have a couple of raised platforms with standing tables where you can eat and get a nice overhead view of the market.
In 2023 and 2024, the big tree was sponsored by Lindt
