Sewing machines are a great tool for creating beautiful projects, but if they're not properly maintained, they can become frustrating to use. To keep your Singer Simple Sewing Machine in tip-top shape, it's important to clean and tension it regularly. Start by unplugging the machine and removing the needle and presser foot. Use a small brush to gently clean out any lint or dust that accumulated inside the bobbin case and around the feed dogs. Then, rethread the machine and adjust the tension to ensure your stitches are even and balanced.
Now that my machine is ready to go, it's time to start on my patchwork quilt! Using scrap fabrics is a great way to create a unique and meaningful gift. I chose to use the simple square shapes of 4by4 and 8by8 depending on the fabric scrap size. To start, Iron and cut the squares. Then lay out my fabric pieces in a pleasing arrangement and begin sewing them together in rows. Once my rows are complete, sew them together to create the main quilt top. Next, layer the quilt top with batting and a backing made from an old sheet. Pin the layers together and carefully sew around the edges. Finally, add any finishing touches like binding or decorative stitching to complete my one-of-a-kind gift for my mom. Her new beach blanket!
