Mahakumbh is a major Hindu pilgrimage festival held every 12 years at four sacred river sites in India:

1. Prayagraj (Allahabad) – Confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers

2. Haridwar – Banks of the Ganga River

3. Ujjain – Banks of the Shipra River

4. Nashik – Banks of the Godavari River

It is considered the largest religious gathering in the world, where millions of devotees take a holy dip in the river to cleanse their sins and attain salvation. The festival is based on Hindu astrology, and the location of each Mahakumbh is determined by planetary positions.

The largest and most significant is the Prayagraj Mahakumbh, held every 12 years. A grander version, the Maha Mahakumbh, occurs every 144 years. The next Mahakumbh in Prayagraj is in 2033, while the next Haridwar Mahakumbh is in 2028.
