٢-من الصحيح أن إدارة ترامب لم تمنح بعد موافقتها لإسرائيل على الضربات العسكرية ضد إيران - كما تشير تقارير الاستخبارات الأمريكية - فمن غير الواقعي توقع مثل هذه الخطوة من ترامب باعتبارها الفصل الافتتاحي لرئاسته.
إن ترامب يحتاج إلى الوقت لبناء فريقه، وصياغة سياسة، وتأمين الشرعية الدولية والدعم للعمل العسكري إذا أصبح ضروريا. وتتطلب المهمة الثالثة ترك مسار مفتوح للدبلوماسية لتمكين إلقاء اللوم على طهران إذا فشلت المفاوضات وتأمين الدعم السياسي من حلفاء الولايات المتحدة وشركائها.

Jason Brodsky wrote the following in The Atlantic:
1. There is no evidence so far that the maximum Iran’s regime is willing to offer—an arrangement similar to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)—would meet the minimum that a Trump administration would accept amid speculation about diplomacy. The stage is set for a confrontation between the United States and Iran, not a deal.

2. While it is true that the Trump administration has yet to grant Israel approval for military strikes against Iran—as U.S. intelligence reports suggest—it is unrealistic to expect such a move from Trump as the opening act of his presidency. Trump needs time to build his team, craft a policy, and secure international legitimacy and support for military action if it becomes necessary. The third task requires keeping a diplomatic path open to ensure that blame falls on Tehran if negotiations fail, while also securing political backing from U.S. allies and partners. At present, the indicators suggest that the United States and Iran are heading toward confrontation, not a successful diplomatic resolution.

3. History has shown that this is unlikely. The Islamic Republic has yet to soften its stance on the nuclear file, even after being weakened by a series of assassinations targeting its proxy network leaders and the deterioration of parts of its air defense and missile capabilities. While Iranian policymakers have acknowledged that the 2015 JCPOA text has long been obsolete, they remain fixated on reviving a new deal based on the core trade-off of temporary nuclear restrictions in exchange for sanctions relief, using the JCPOA as a reference or framework.

Some Iranian officials have hinted in public broadcasts at a willingness to discuss non-nuclear concerns, but the true decision-makers—the Supreme Leader and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders—have steered clear of talks on missile programs, drones, and other regional issues. Their positions speak louder than the advocates trying to create the impression, particularly for Western audiences, that such a fundamental shift is possible.
