Do you know a leisure land called Yomiuri Land? Opened in 1964 in the southern part of the Tama Hills, it has become a major leisure facility that is crowded with many visitors to this day.
There used to be a monorail running on this Yomiuri Land.
Centering on Yomiuri Land Station, which was located on the site of the current Yomiuri Keiyu Hospital Station, the parking lot station, Ongakudo Station, which was located in the large parking lot for the land, and skis located near the ski resort mentioned above. It was a 3.4km line that returned to Yomiuri Land Station, which is the starting position, via Ba Station.
The monorail opened on New Year's Day 1964 (Showa 39). The service started prior to the opening of the land, and since then it has been active as a foot for visitors to Yomiuri Land and migrants between facilities.
At the time of opening, the monorail was opened with a total length of 2 km, which is the longest distance in Japan (later extended to a circular operation). At that time, it seems that an extension to "Yomiuri Land Mae Station" on the Odakyu Line was planned, but it did not happen in the end.
After that, the monorail was abolished in 1978 (Showa 53).
Even after the monorail was discontinued, the monorail No. 1 bridge and the monorail No. 2 bridge that had been used remained, but due to their deterioration, both bridges were removed around 2007.
Due to this, most of the remains of the abandoned route of the Yomiuri Land Monorail have been removed, and without the knowledge at that time, it is now difficult to even follow the original route.
This time, we took a walk on the discontinued route for this Yomiuri Land Monorail.
