हिन्दू शब्द का शास्त्रीय अर्थ
क्या हिंदू शब्द वैदिक है?
अगर "हिंदू" शब्द वैदिक होता, तो हमें वह वेदों में अवश्य मिलता। लेकिन वेदों में यह शब्द नहीं पाया जाता। वेदों में आर्य, सनातन धर्म, देवयानी आदि शब्द मिलते हैं, परंतु "हिंदू" शब्द अनुपस्थित है।
क्या हिंदू शब्द आर्ष है?
यदि "हिंदू" शब्द आर्ष (ऋषियों द्वारा प्रयुक्त) होता, तो हमारे ऋषिग्रंथों—उपनिषद, ब्राह्मण ग्रंथ, आरण्यक आदि में इसका उल्लेख अवश्य मिलता। लेकिन इन ग्रंथों में भी "हिंदू" शब्द अनुपस्थित है।
क्या हिंदू शब्द रामायण और महाभारत में मिलता है?
रामायण और महाभारत दोनों ही हमारे महत्वपूर्ण ऐतिहासिक ग्रंथ हैं, परंतु इनमें भी "हिंदू" शब्द का उल्लेख नहीं है।
हिंदू शब्द आया कहां से आया ?
"हिंदू" शब्द मूलतः फ़ारसी (Persian) भाषा से आया है। फ़ारसी में 'स' को 'ह' उच्चारण किया जाता है, इसलिए संस्कृत के "सिंधु" शब्द को फ़ारसी में "हिंदू" कहा गया। यह शब्द फ़ारसी और अरब व्यापारियों तथा आक्रमणकारियों द्वारा भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप के लोगों को संदर्भित करने के लिए प्रयुक्त हुआ।

यदि निश्चलानंद जी अपनी पुस्तक गर्व से कहो हम हिंदू हैं में "हिंदू" शब्द को संस्कृत मूल का बताते हैं, तो यह ऐतिहासिक और भाषावैज्ञानिक दृष्टि से गलत प्रतीत होता है। यदि वे कभी इसे सिंधु से उत्पन्न बताते हैं, और कभी abbreviation कहते हैं, तो यह उनके तर्कों में असंगति को दर्शाता है।

Is the word Hindu Vedic?
If the word "Hindu" was Vedic, we would have found it in the Vedas. But this word is not found in the Vedas. In the Vedas, we find words like Arya, Sanatana Dharma, Devyani etc., but the word "Hindu" is absent.
Is the word Hindu Aarsh?

If Nischalananda Ji claims the word "Hindu" to be of Sanskrit origin in his book Garv Se Kaho Hum Hindu Hain, it appears to be historically and linguistically incorrect. If he sometimes claims it to be derived from Sindhu, and sometimes an abbreviation, it shows inconsistency in his arguments.
