There are a lot of ways to write a good college application essay, but there are also a lot of ways to write a bad one. Over the past 15 years, I’ve helped students earn admission to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, and just about every other prestigious college or university that you could name. In the process, I've learned a lot about what admission officers like, as well as what they don't like. In this video, I cover 14 of the biggest mistakes that you can make in your college application essays. These are the kind of errors that can completely ruin your application and send it straight to the rejection pile, and a lot of them are super common--so common, in fact, that you might be making some of them yourself! So unless your goal is to get rejected, take note of these major don'ts and make sure that your common app college application essay is not doing any of them.
