Steamrail Victoria's special tour, Farewell Broadway Broad Gauge celebrates the last visit to Wycheproof by a broad gauge steam locomotive, as the tracks are being converted to standard gauge.
The special event coincides with the first ever visit by a N Class diesel locomotive to Wycheproof. The event was so successful that the main street of Wycheproof, known as Broadway, was closed at times to permit the thousands to enjoy the special event.
Part 01 consists of the very early morning arrival at Maryborough of A2 986 with its water gin & support cars, seen performing some shunting duties, then receiving some minor maintenance prior to the trip north. Later that morning, we see the arrival of train #8197 originating in Melbourne, containing the 400+ rail fans, powered by N472 + T356.
Once the train is put together in Maryborough the trip continues its mementos tour. We capture it at a number of locations consisting of Maryborough, Dunolly, Painswick, Llanelly, Kurting, Korong Vale, Barrakee, Glenloth & its destination of Wycheproof.
