Lifting off watercolor paint is a really useful technique, it can create highlight effects but can also cover up mistakes too!
Every artist will have their own preferred methods, and there are several ways of lifting off watercolor paint to choose from. Here are just six that I've tried myself, and which I find work well. I can't stress enough how important it is to test these methods out on similar pigments on some scrap paper first. It will be much better to find something doesn't work on a practise piece rather than the main painting. As an added bonus, I've included an extra way of creating highlights which doesn't involve lifting paint off.
