This video shows the remains of the old Benjamin F. Carpenter farm, cemetery, and house coal mine, located on Brake Mountain, near Lower Lick Run, in Webster County, West Virginia.
Benjamin's son John Carpenter, now age 96, comments on his early life at this farm, which he moved from in about 1943-44. John also talks about the family cemetery located on the farm as well as the house coal mine they used at this farm. Old photos of this Carpenter family at the time they lived at the farm are included in this video. John and his wife Oleta (Cowger), now age 92, have been married for 74 years.
John is a first cousin to my great-grandfather Allen Carpenter. This line of Carpenter's trace their heritage back to Solomon Carpenter of "Solly's Rock" fame. A video and some history of Solly's rock can be viewed at: https://youtu.be/EtLJR9my8CQ
