We had the privilege of closely filming YOAKE, a furniture artisan who works alone in his woodland workshop, crafting solid wood furniture with dedication.
"YOAKE - A Small Woodland Furniture Workshop" is located in the mountainous region of Yame, Fukuoka Prefecture. Using rare, high-quality domestic solid wood and locally sourced materials, YOAKE employs the traditional Japanese technique of Suitsuki-zan to create furniture that enriches daily life and brings warmth to its users.
Suitsuki-zan is an exceptionally rare Japanese woodworking technique that prevents wood from warping through precision sliding tenon joinery. This technique is mastered by only a handful of artisans in Japan.
