One of Canada’s most extreme railroads snakes over 1000 Km’s across the frozen tundra. The Ontario Northland Railroad is vital network for industry and remote communities but, in one of the harshest environments on earth it takes a hardcore team and a fleet of mega machines to keep this critical life line running.
In this episode brutal blizzards and ice threaten to derail the networks longest and heaviest freight runs.
The mill at Kapuskasing is one of the railroads most important customers, it supplies newsprint to the biggest newspapers in Canada and North America and the news print has to make it on time.
Under pressure train conductor Jay Falldien must battle equipment failures, heavy snow and blizzards. It’s a race against the clock and mother nature to get the freight East before nightfall.
Whilst on the tracks plummeting temperatures and heavy ice build up has dangerously warped a section of track. The maintenance team, ted by foreman Darren Martin have just minutes to make urgent repairs and avoid disaster.
