Anaerobic Microorganisms and their Applications in Environmental Science

Video Not Working? Fix It Now

Matthew Kirk, associate professor of geology, discusses how microorganisms are key drivers of global biogeochemical cycles and that their activities influence animal and plant health, agriculture, the quality of water and soil resources, the composition of the atmosphere and more. Using his recent research, Dr. Kirk explores the environmental factors that influence microbial respiration in anoxic environments and illustrate how these findings can be used to improve environmental quality.

This talk was being presented for students participating in the capstone course of the Natural Resources and Environmental Science (NRES) Secondary Major and was open to the public as part of the NRES Seminar Series.

The NRES Secondary Major and its seminar series are generously supported by the Office of the Provost, College of Agriculture, College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, and Department of Geography.
