History of Sunamganj Banijjo Mela....
Although specific information about the history of trade fairs in Sunamganj is limited, some notable initiatives are known. In 2011, a decision was made to open border markets in Sunamganj and Kurigram with the aim of increasing border trade between Bangladesh and India. These markets were to operate every Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm, where people from both countries could participate in the markets without passports, subject to permission.
Furthermore, in 2011, the Indo-Bangla Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI) proposed to set up a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on 100 acres of land for Indian investors in Chhatak Upazila of Sunamganj. Through this initiative, a three-day trade fair was organized to showcase products from both countries.
At the local level, trade fairs are held in Sunamganj at various times, where local and international products are showcased. For example, a trade fair was held in Sunamganj in 2023, which attracted a response from local traders and buyers.
Recently, traders have faced massive losses due to floods in Sunamganj, where shops and houses were submerged. This has disrupted business activities and caused financial losses to traders.
সুনামগঞ্জে বাণিজ্য মেলার ইতিহাস সম্পর্কে সুনির্দিষ্ট তথ্য সীমিত হলেও, কিছু উল্লেখযোগ্য উদ্যোগের কথা জানা যায়। ২০১১ সালে, বাংলাদেশ ও ভারতের মধ্যে সীমান্ত বাণিজ্য বৃদ্ধির লক্ষ্যে সুনামগঞ্জ ও কুড়িগ্রামে সীমান্ত বাজার চালু করার সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়া হয়। এই বাজারগুলো প্রতি শনিবার সকাল ১০টা থেকে বিকাল ৩টা পর্যন্ত পরিচালিত হওয়ার কথা ছিল, যেখানে উভয় দেশের মানুষ অনুমতি সাপেক্ষে পাসপোর্ট ছাড়াই বাজারে অংশগ্রহণ করতে পারতেন।
এছাড়া, ২০১১ সালে ইন্দো-বাংলা চেম্বার অব কমার্স অ্যান্ড ইন্ডাস্ট্রি (IBCCI) সুনামগঞ্জের ছাতক উপজেলায় ভারতীয় বিনিয়োগকারীদের জন্য ১০০ একর জমিতে একটি বিশেষ অর্থনৈতিক অঞ্চল (SEZ) স্থাপনের প্রস্তাব করে। এই উদ্যোগের মাধ্যমে উভয় দেশের পণ্য প্রদর্শনের জন্য তিন দিনের বাণিজ্য মেলা আয়োজন করা হয়।
স্থানীয় পর্যায়ে, সুনামগঞ্জে বিভিন্ন সময়ে বাণিজ্য মেলা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়, যেখানে স্থানীয় ও আন্তর্জাতিক পণ্য প্রদর্শন করা হয়। উদাহরণস্বরূপ, ২০২৩ সালে সুনামগঞ্জে একটি বাণিজ্য মেলা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়, যা স্থানীয় ব্যবসায়ী ও ক্রেতাদের মধ্যে সাড়া ফেলে।
সাম্প্রতিককালে, সুনামগঞ্জে বন্যার কারণে ব্যবসায়ীরা ব্যাপক ক্ষতির সম্মুখীন হয়েছেন, যেখানে দোকানপাট ও বাড়িঘর প্লাবিত হয়েছে। এতে ব্যবসায়িক কার্যক্রম ব্যাহত হয়েছে এবং ব্যবসায়ীরা আর্থিক ক্ষতির সম্মুখীন হয়েছেন।
